David Goldblatt Speaks with Katherine Slusher, Conversations with Photographers, English and Spanish editions, a Fabrica, Madrid, 82pp., 2011.

For fifty years,  David Goldblatt (Randfontein, 1930) has created a visual memory of South Africa with his photographs. He has protrayed his country's political landscape since the 1960s, exploring the intersections between the land, its people and its values. This conversation between the photographer and art curator Katherine Slusher took place in Paris in January, 2011, during Goldblatt's exhibition at the Fondation Cartier-Bresson. They discuss the photographer's recent projects, his career and life in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Lee Miller and Roland Penrose: The Green Memories of Desire, Prestel: Munich/ London/New York, 96pp., 2007.

This richly illustrated joint biography tells the story of the shared life of Miller and Penrose, placing them among other, well known, artistic couples like O'Keeffe and Stieglitz, Kahlo and Rivera, Mondotti and Weston, to mention a few. Loaded with photographs of Penrose's surrealistic painting and Miller's broad range of art, portrait and combat photography, several of these images have not been seen in other publications. Their individual and shared relationships with Picasso, Man Ray, and other significant artists were lifelong commitments. It's fascinating the ways in which the two artists come together and apart while making important and fundamental contributions to the world of 20th century art.
